Just yesterday in a speech president Obama made great sport of republicans that say we should drill our own oil to help reduce the price of gas. It appears that senator Chuck Schumer (D NY) didn't get the memo.

This week the United States all too quietly celebrated a fiftieth anniversary. On February 20, 1962 astronaut John Glenn embarked on the first manned earth orbit. Many are too young to remember this great acomplishment, and many more were not even born yet. I was approaching my sixth birthday when Mr. Glenn made his historic flight, but even at that young age I remember the excitement and national pride that was felt by all Americans. The first step of a goal set by president John F Kennedy in a speech to a joint session of congress on May 25 1961 to safely send a man to the moon before the end of the decade. That goal was achieved on July 20, 1969 when Apollo 11 landed astronauts Neil Armstrong, and Edwin “Buzz” Aldren Jr. on the moon. Neil Armstrong was the first to set foot on the moon. To quote Mr. Armstrong. “One small step for man. One giant step for mankind.” I was by that time twelve years old. I can remember the pride the whole country felt. We were Americans and we beat the Russians to the moon. Despite all the controversy in the country over wars that shouldn’t be, and racial tensions to be resolved one thing rang true. We were still America. We were number one.

I thought this worth posting given the large number of waterfront properties in the Adirondacks. This situation could easily apply to many with homes on Sacandaga lake,and given a different reason dreamed up by some agency it could apply to any waterfront property. Expect more of this sort of thing with regulatory agencies running wild these days.

Maroun criticizes Adirondack Council’s ‘elitism’

The fallout of a resolution opposing the fee acquisition of nearly 75,000 acres of land near Tupper Lake and in the southern Adirondacks continues, with one area lawmaker blasting an environmental group’s supposed “elitism.”

Earlier this year, the Adirondack Local Government Review Board unanimously adopted a resolution opposing the state’s impending purchase of former Finch Pruyn lands and acreage near Follensby Pond.

The resolution prompted outcry from one of the region’s largest environmental groups, the Adirondack Council. The group’s executive director, Brian Houseal, said the review board resolution was out of line, alleging the taxpayer-funded organization stepped outside its mandate under the state Adirondack Park Agency Act.

Toboggan Championship rescheduled for Saturday

LAKE PLACID - A spat of warm weather led to the cancelation of the Adirondack International Toboggan Championship in Lake Placid on Feb. 19, but the event is back on.

It's planned for this Saturday at the Gerald F. Cassidy Memorial Toboggan Park, located on Parkside Drive, starting at 3:30 p.m. All proceeds will benefit USA Luge.

Government programs come and go so fast these days that the old ones are soon forgotten. Financial bailouts, corporate bailouts, mortgage bailouts more numerous than anyone can count it seems. Those that institute these programs are quick to claim success well before the unforeseen consequences are ever known. Lets look at one of the smaller programs. Only 2.8 BILLION of taxpayers money in an effort to "boost the car manufacturing industry, and promote the green agenda". Yes lets see what "cash for clunkers" has accomplished two years later.
